Best commentator ever?

Most of you probably don't follow La Liga too closely. That's the spanish soccer first division league. The league just finished last weekend, and it was a thrilling finish. There was a 3-way race between Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Valencia. Valencia was in 3rd place with really only an outside chance of winning so it was Real and Barcelona duking it out to the finish. On Sunday, Real was in the lead with their destiny in hand. If they won, the title was theirs, if they tied or lost and Barcelona won, Barcelona would win for a third straight year. Barcelona did their part opening up a can of whoop ass on lowly Gimnastic for I believe a 5-1 victory. So it was up to Real to do their part. Here in the US, at least in this area, the spanish games are covered by Gol Tv and the english color commentator is Ray Hudson who just might be best. Yes, yes, I know, it's very debatable but let me explain. Just tonight, I actually went back to the game on tivo, not to look for specific highlights, but to look for specific Ray Hudson gems that had me just rolling, even the second time. Last night at my indoor soccer game, I caught at least 2 different groups of people that were talking about the game, but more specifically about some of Ray's quotes and how funny they were.

So back to the game, Real Madrid actually went down 1-0 in the first half, and you could tell the stadium was super tense (they were playing at home). They now had to score 2 goals to win the league. As some of you may know, David Beckam and Tom Cruise are buddy buddy, so Tom and Katie were at the game. They were playing Mallorca, which is the home town of Rafael Nadal so he was also in attendance. More on this later... In the second half, Real tied, and you knew they had a really good chance of winning now (they're a much better team then Mallorca). They indeed ended up going ahead 2-1, and towards the end, they added a 3rd goal for good measure. After the third goal, Ray just went nuts.

Speaking of the coach, who made a brilliant sub for Reyes who came in and scored two of the goals: "The substitution by Don Fabio pays dividends. Braver then a matador in high heels and a pink tutu!!! Braver then a bull fighter with no knickers on!"

Not bad, not bad, but the best one has to be when Ray was praising the Real goal keeper and Phil, the play by play man mentions Tom Cruise, and Ray, literally just screams at him:"WILL YOU STOP TALKING ABOUT TENNIS PLAYERS AND STUPID HOLLYWOOD ACTORS PHIL! It's the gladiators out there man, not tennis players! Tom Cruise... (in a disgusted voice) If he smelled a soccer jock strap he'd faint dead away."

Oh man, it's hard to do it justice in text, but you have to admit, that's just classic!

I'lll see if I can find it on YouTube. Anyway, that dude sure makes watching soccer interesting. So much better then the crappy commentators on ESPN.
